Biometrie und Umweltsystemanalyse

collage.jpg

The department of Biometry & Environmental System Analysis takes a quantitative look at ecological systems. Data are central to much of our work, as are the ecological theories that are to be tested with them.

While our work is impartial to the ecosystem under investigation, we are most commonly working on interaction networks, forest biodiversity and macroecological topics. As the signal-to-noise ratio seems to decrease as ecological research progresses, a substantial part of our work is about comparing statistical methods and making them more accessible.

In line with these topics, our teaching also focusses on environmental statistics and modelling, as well as quantitative ecology.

Our group is part of the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
